LED Lighting - Lamps

LED lighting is THE energy efficient route when designing your next lighting project. LEDs can generate all the light you need, while only using a small amount of power. You can find all the most common types of LED bulbs and lamps in one place here as well as more generally in our Light Shop

The use of LED’s for lighting has accelerated exponentially over the last 20 years and whilst early examples had a cold blueish light, modern day examples mimic the warm colours we have been used to very closely. If you want the very warmest white light, look for 2700-3000K lamp light examples, whilst at the other end of the scale, Cool White 4000K or even 6000 Daylight are also available.

What are the advantages of using LED Lighting?

Using eco-friendly lighting saves the planet and your wallet from expensive-to-run halogen and incandescent bulbs. A typical example of just how energy efficient LED lamps are is when you think about the downlights which typically are in use in everyone’s kitchens. These used to be pretty much the same – a 50 watt halogen lamp producing 500 Lumens. That same halogen lamp can be replaced by an LED Light using 7 watts but also producing 500 Lumens. Incredible energy saving LED Lighting solutions particularly when you consider you might have used 8-10 or more in a typical kitchen.

LED Light

Additionally, LED Light is very directional – other forms of lighting often require an additional reflector to direct the light effectively. LED’s are very durable, insensitive to vibration and shock, and are a very efficient light source. Average Lifetimes are very long as well, 50,000 hours is not unusual. They are safe and do not emit Infrared or Ultra-Violet.

Unlike fluorescent lights, they light up instantly and can be used widely both in the home and outdoors. See our range of Outdoor Lights here

Another benefit of using LED’s is that they are very cool running. This means that the potential danger of running very hot Halogen lights, particularly in situations where they are inserted into old flammable ceilings is mitigated. Mostly they can be used within hand reach without hazards. As well as this, they cut down on air conditioning requirements in commercial situations where previously halogen metal halide lamps might have been used with the consequent high temperatures produced.

LED Lighting Solutions

Mostly retrofit LED lamps do not require a separate LED Driver meaning that if you are replacing 12-volt halogens, you can simply throw away the associated energy-wasting transformers and wire them indirectly. If you want to dim your LED Lamp, it can be done but make sure it says so in the product description otherwise you can get unpredictable results and either not work at all or flash on/off. If it does not state “Dimmable” in the description then move on!

You won’t be compromising on quality or effectiveness by choosing LED lighting. There are even different colored bulbs to choose from if you’re looking for unusual lighting in your room. Browse our selection and give us a call if you need any advice on designing the lighting for your next refurb project.
